Quakes Jolts Shattered Balochistan

The horrible earthquakes in the past days shattered many villages in Balochistan. The first quake
jolt of 7.8 magnitudes according to the American Geological survey on 24th September destroyed
more than 40,000 houses where as the death toll rised to 375 as number of injured went up to 825
as result of the main shock following several after shocks. Awaran and Dandar have been destroyed 95%.The deadly disaster ended the existence of Dandar, Awaran, Mashkay, Jahu and several other
villages. 37,000 families effected.

“22 kids at a maddrisa martyred while reciting the Holly Quran. People didn’t even have shrouds for
them before burying and were buried with their Eid dresses that were kept out of the maddrisa room
and were going to be distributed”, grieved a survivor in Kuzdar. Sadly, most deads buried without
shrouds.

The poor communication system is the biggest hindrance in the way of relief operations. The roads
that were already dilapidated, after the earthquake no roads remained. The innocent civilians suffering
from days, either injured, stuck in the debris, starving, dehydrated or living under the open sky waiting
for someone to help them overcome the horrible disaster they went through. The people compelled to
eat the dates from the trees in Awaran after starving from days.

Relief aids had begun in some of the areas but many remote areas yet need attention. The injured
are turning to deaths because of the lack of medical assistance. Survivors call for help!

The extreme necessitates of the victims are tents, food, drinking water, and medical aid right away.
Instead of accusing others or media the provincial government should be quick in the rescue and
relief operations. Social welfare organizations, non-government organizations, youth groups and
institutions should also take initiatives to support the victims in this hard period of time.
