iEARN Cultural Heritage Workshop, Gwadar

By YES-Alumni

YES Alumna from Gwadar conducted a two-day workshop at YES-Alumna’s English Language center, Gatti Dohr Gwadar on 2nd and 3rd of March 2014 by iEARN Pakistan (International Education and Resource Network), SIE (Society for International Education) and YES Alumna. Through the workshop, 20 students got the opportunity to learn about our cultural heritage, history, traditions and customs along with celebrating the culture day.

Students of the Language center were very excited about attending the workshop because of two reasons. First reason was their interest in the topics of the workshop and second reason was that it was the first workshop they had ever attended!

The students got an opportunity to learn through presentations. On the first day of the workshop 2nd March, they got to learn about cultural diversity and the importance of tolerance. YES Alumna used the occasion to share her cross cultural experiences. Along with signifying our own culture, students were taught to appreciate other existing cultures around the globe. The students seemed very interested through out the workshop.

Most the students belong to underprivileged schools where they don’t get the opportunity to be a part of any celebrations, so on the second day of the workshop, the students got the chance to celebrate, explore, present, and enjoy their time. They enhanced presentational skills by presenting their art work about culture and different landscapes of the country. A group of other children and women from the neighborhood were invited to visit the center. Students’ artworks were exhibited. The students presented poetry and they also presented the folk story of “Hani and Sheh Mureed” as a drama.

The students were very happy during the workshop and celebration. They enjoyed their time as well as the women folk form the neighborhood got an opportunity to enjoy a cultural day out and appreciate the kids’ work. This workshop will encourage the students to appreciate other existing cultures around the globe and promote peace, tolerance and harmony.
