“Workshop on Role of Youth in Community Service”
13th April
2014
Shout out for PUAN Gwadar Chapter’s first event!
The newly established Chapter of PUAN in Gwadar celebrated
Global Youth Service Day with the students of Unique English Language Center on
13th April. The PUAN members from Gwadar; Mariyam Suleman (YES
2011-2012), Granaz Baloch (TEA 2011), Zarif Ahmed (CCI 2010-2011) and Ejaz Adam
(CCI 2012-2013) organized and facilitated the workshop “Community Service and
Volunteerism” along with an associate member Samina Omar (Access Alumna).
The main goals of the workshop were to clarify the concepts
of community service and volunteerism. Along with making the students
understand the values of service, they were also encouraged for serving the
community as volunteers and epitomize themselves as change motives for their
society. Students were also given various ideas in which they can contribute
for the betterment of their community and demonstrate their roles as change
makers.
A number of two collated workshops were held at Unique
English Language Center on 13th April. The first event was
facilitated by Granaz Baloch and Mariyam Suleman for the female students where
as the second event was facilitated by Zarif Ahmed and Ejaz Adam for the male
students. Both the events had the same theme and goals.
The first event was a workshop which facilitated above
thirty female students. To make the workshop interesting the alumni illustrated
the students through the use of different methodologies during the workshop
which included a PowerPoint presentation, panel discussion, group project or
presentation as well as some fun activities.
The YES Alumna, Mariyam Suleman conducted the introductory
session on Global Youth service Day and its significance around the world.
Granaz Baloch conducted the session on community service and volunteerism. While
the Access alumna, Samina Omar assisted the alumni through out the workshop.
By the end of the workshop, the enthusiastic young female
change makers shared their ideas for various community service projects, and
presented their incredible presentations. They were passionate about their
ideas and were willing to collaborate with social activists of their community
to carry out their projects.
The second event was held in the same center with 150 male
students. The event was facilitated by Alumni, Zarif Ahmed and Ejaz Adam along
with some other volunteer teachers of the center. The concepts of Community
Service as well as Volunteerism were brought into light by each alumnus. Along
with sharing their experiences, the alumni encouraged the students to get
engaged in such activities. By the end of their sessions, the students began
their first community service project, which was a site clean up. This made
them understand the values of serving the community commencing with little
efforts.
The first event by PUAN Gwadar chapter stepped with success.
A total of 180 students were benefitted by the alumni. We hope that the same
spirit will continue and the PUAN Gwadar Chapter with more alumni involved will
benefit more people in the region through the up coming projects.
