Many Languages, One World

How monotonous this world would have been if there was only one language for the whole world? This world would have never known the fascination which is hidden within the great treasures of languages. Each language is different from the other but each has its own distinctiveness, uniqueness, origin and splendor. Some are ancient while a number of the languages used today are not that old. Today our exertions to learn new languages had increased and so has the expression of care for the people around the globe. There are countless ways to summarize this world and numerous languages used with in it. As it is said that languages are one of the greatest entities that had given this world an attractive virtual identity.

This world’s major beauty lies within its diversity and how the diverse cultures understand the values of each other. Probably language acts as the most effective tool to comprehend and understand one another. Our attachments with the people from a diverse language are only possible when we understand them. Multilingualism beyond doubt plays a vital role in understanding or communicating. We can not only create networks of relating to each other by the use of different languages, but also share our divergent cultures, ethnicities or even beliefs.

In fact, all languages build relationships between the people. Some languages act as the main mode of communication for a specific region, while a number of languages help a whole country or even larger vicinity however a few languages bridge the bonds of humanity and create strong and firm links amid the entire globe such as the international languages. Such languages don’t only represent a single region, a nation, a religion or a culture but they represent the whole world. Today it is much easier than ever before to put thoughts into words for a larger population because today the international languages are strong mediums of communiqué for a vast majority of the people all over the world and this absolutely means that various international conflicts and misconceptions can also end which are either political, social, cultural, economical or even lingual. The only need is to understand each other, which is only possible through promoting different languages.

Languages don’t only play a vital role in communication but they have given this world an additional obsession to take pleasure in. The literature festivals of diverse languages in different parts of the globe had given this world unique color of art with words. They had introduced the world languages as specific nature of art. It is also one of the factors for the development of languages which are brought in front during literature festival because more and more people begin reading and writing that language which also increases the scope of that particular language and makes it alive for longer.

Taking a glimpse at the history, millions of years ago, when there were a few languages in the world, neither the humans had any identification nor could humans communicate very well. Nevertheless, as the world population rapidly increased, as per the number of languages amplified. People became socially interactive as well as collaborative and were then able to converse with one another in their specific region and further the same communal languages converged into larger languages with more dialects. Since, then language has become one of the greatest needs of life for humans. From the time when this world had been created, humans had been introducing thousands of Languages. Some of those ancient languages are still used today like Arabic and Hebrew. Though both these languages had changed a little with the passage of time but both are still alive and used in many parts of the world where as a number of languages have ended their existence such as Umbrian and Oscan. However, such languages still have their importance in the history and are the representatives of that ancient time.

Owning the fundamental functions in symbolizing nations’ present along with its past, culture as well as its traditions, different languages are the truest representatives of the world we live in. There might be various factors that can connect different groups of population but languages stand out from all of other dynamisms. In fact nations’ cultures’ richness and historical background can be preserved till thousands of years by the strong bonds of language.

Taking the example of our native language Balochi, we find it as the base of our history as well as the base of the unisons of our people within our province. The proverbs which are used in Balochi language present a point of time in the past and picture the event which occurred in the history. On the other hand poetry too signifies the folk stories as well as the wars which occurred in the past.

It is assumed that this is similar with every nation in the world because each Language has its own beauty, affect and significance. That is why The United Nations Education and Scientific Cultural Organization UNESCO had always been advocating for the languages of the world. As today a number of countries in the world have groups of population who speak different languages and each region demands the approach to allow for the use of first language to be the medium of instruction in public schools and other public educational institutions. The fact that a child understands the complex conceptions best in his or her native language has now truly become exceptional world wide. On the other hand, understanding the importance of each regional, national and international language, UNESCO had also considered medium of instruction in the first language as a basic human right.

As a matter of fact, today a lot of the basic human rights are still being violated in many regions of the world, among them language is only a minor one which is not focused that much.

Similarly, by some means it can’t be erroneous to name language as the base of unison and synergy of nations because from the past or even till today numerous nations are specifically based on sharing the same language. On one end languages unify nations but on the other end sometimes languages create conflicts among different nations as well. The history is evidence of this fact that some of the countries in the world resisted for their independence because they were kept out of their right of language. One the popular examples can be of Bangladesh’s freedom resistance. There were other factors of their resistance too but one of them was language. When Urdu was recognized as the official language and the basic medium of instruction for education in the West Pakistan, students and people relating from each sectors demonstrated because more than 95% people spoke Bengali (Bangla) there. As a result the freedom war continued till Bangladesh got independence and the people got the right to their mother-tongue. Every language used in the world has its own importance which can’t be denied and today it is globally acknowledged.

Similarly, if the native languages are important, people of the world need one medium to comprehend each other as well. And humans have also been successful in this regard. By human’s success it means that they had almost got prosperity to use one language for the whole world to be able to understand each other. At present if this world is known as a global village, and if humans are successful, to have a digital foot print in the whole world, it was only possible because of a few developed languages. Among them English is one.

People within our world speak millions of languages but as they necessitated a platform to be able to understand one another, they had to dominate one language over thousands. Only a few languages in the world have the power to represent the entire world. Such languages have given humans an opportunity to relate to each other and increase the social network. Today people from most parts of the world want to be heard and that is why people from those regions, learn international languages. This makes it clear that today’s humans care for other languages along with their own native language and as a whole they care for the entire world.

Humans are not only habitants of their particular region but they are habitants of the world. So, each step by each human counts. Though we are diverse, but we are the same. The only need is to give equal importance to each language of the world. Because though, the words we say sound different or we look different but we as humans have similar expressions, emotions and thoughts. Though, we are distant but we are still close to each other. Firstly, we all are humans and we all believe in humanity. Secondly, we just have a difference of words but we express ourselves in the similar way.

Thus, languages are the techniques and modes of conveying our message, but the reality is this that each language talks about a peaceful world where people from each language live with liberty, compassion and care for one another. This is what the people of my region and my world say. This is also what every religion says. And this is utterly what the speakers of every language say. The way we all say it, might differ but all it means is the same.
